From Internship to Working in the Real World
I have been asked to pop together a little blog post about my first 6 months working for Flamingo Marketing. If you are looking to apply for our new Internship opportunity I hope my rambling is of use to you! Click here to see our current internship opportunities.
After finishing my Creative Advertising degree last summer at Falmouth University, I was very keen to get out into the real working world, and get some experience in the industry.
Being a Cornish girl I always knew I wanted to stay local, who wouldn’t want to live near the sea? So when Nikki posted the ‘3 Month Internship’ job online I applied straight away.
I began working for Flamingo Marketing in August 2015 and I can safely say no two days are the same. The office is situated at Pirate’s Quest, an attraction Flamingo Marketing manage. Not everyone can say they’ve done a tea run through a shipwreck!
I have learnt more valuable skills in the last 6 months then I could of hoped for. I work across all aspects of the visitor attraction accounts from social media to advertising, writing to designing. The team have supported my learning by letting me try my hand at just about every aspect of marketing and are always here when I need a hand with something.
I get to work with lots of clients across the UK from kids play and animal attractions, to theme parks, historic houses and world heritage sites, all from my desk in Newquay!
Since becoming a Flamingo ‘chick’ I have been on multiple training courses, and at the moment I am in the process of qualifying in MailChimp. I was also able to represent our clients at the British and Ireland Marketplace Show held at Wembley Stadium, which was both exciting and terrifying!
When my three months were up, I was delighted to be taken on as an Account Manager, taking on lots more responsibilities and becoming an official member of the Flamingo family.
