My Highlights of 2016 at Flamingo!
After thinking back to everything that has happened during 2016, I realised how many amazing opportunities I have been lucky enough to experience through being part of Flamingo Marketing. I have put together some of my highlights of 2016.
Starting off as an intern for a month back in August 2015 – and then joined the team full-time, I never thought I’d have so many career highlights already….I work across all visitor attraction clients from historic houses to theme parks and there is absolutely no such thing as a typical day!
In January I got the chance to represent our clients at the Britain and Ireland Marketplace Show, held at the iconic venue – Wembley Stadium. This was both a terrifying and amazing opportunity to meet with members of the group tourism industry and discuss how our clients could work together to offer valuable experiences to their groups, FITS and overseas visitors.
In April I visited our client, Birdland Park and Gardens to work with our photographer to get lots of new images for our social media and website. The best moment of this trip was feeding the King Penguins, but nobody tells you that they bite!
In June, one of my childhood dreams came true, when I was asked to become a Mermaid for some promotional photos for a special event. I think the photos show how happy I am to become a princess for the day.
In September, the TED X talks came to Truro and a few of the Flamingo team nabbed front row seats. It was so great listening to lots of inspirational talkers on subjects from outer space to inside the brain of a psychopath.
In October, I was asked (more like I begged) to be part of the annual scare night at Pirate’s Quest. I hadn’t been in a production since primary school plays so paired with Melodie (PR Account Manager) we became the Freaky Sisters! (Flamingo do like to get ‘fully immersed’ with their clients!)
In November, I got the opportunity to work my first ever big Press Event at the stunning Blenheim Palace. We hosted press visits and had to manage photographers and broadcast journalists, Times+ VIP visitors and competition winners throughout the evening. Not only did I meet lots of fantastic members of the press but I also got to go around the festive lights trail over and over again!
And the last highlight for the year was in December when we spotted myself and Melodie on the front cover of Stand Out magazine as a result of some of the great coverage we achieved for the Blenheim Palace Christmas Lights event.
I’ve also attended lots of talks and conferences from Visit Cornwall to Museum Association, which I feel really helped to build my knowledge and understanding of the tourism industry.
